Our standard short loan laptop service is currently suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check back for updates.
Students and staff have been able to borrow laptops for an extended period during the 2020-21 academic year, to assist the shift to blended learning. The following arrangements are available to UoB registered students and staff only, and not to students and staff at our off-campus partners or satellite sites.
Staff needing to borrow a laptop for work purposes should discuss their needs with their line manager and Head of Department. Their Head of Department can make a request on their behalf to the Head of Information Systems and Technology.
Once the request is approved, a member of the Library Helpdesk will be in touch to arrange the loan of the device.
Laptops are available for loan to those without access to suitable IT equipment at home.
Short term loan
To apply to borrow a laptop please speak to your personal tutor about your circumstances. They can make a referral to the Library and once approved you can book a collection slot to visit the Library. When booking a slot please specify that you are collecting a laptop using the relevant tick box. Please do not make arrangements to visit the Library until your booking has been approved. The exact due date will be confirmed on issue.
Longer term laptop loans for eligible students
If you have received full entitlement of Student Finance support you can apply to borrow a laptop for the full duration of the 20/21 academic year. Please contact the Student Advisors to make an application.
Once your application has been approved you can book a collection slot to visit the Library. When booking a slot please specify that you are collecting a laptop using the relevant tick box. Please do not make arrangements to visit the Library until your booking has been approved.
If you do not have access to suitable study space at home, you can continue to use the Library for study space. See When Can I Use the Library?
