Introducing The Year of the Nurse and Midwife

by Sarah White on 2020-02-19T08:30:00+00:00 in Health, Nursing | 0 Comments

What's it all about?

To mark Florence Nightingale's bicentennial year, the World Health Organisation has announced that they will be celebrating 2020 as the first ever global Year of the Nurse and Midwife.

Nurses and midwives make up the largest numbers of the NHS workforce. They are highly skilled, multi-faceted professionals from a host of backgrounds that represent our diverse communities. 2020 is our time to reflect on these skills, the commitment and expert clinical care they bring, and the impact they make on the lives of so many.’

How will we promote it?

We will be organising special activities, blogs, displays and competitions for students throughout the year, alongside the School of Nursing and Midwifery and our satellite sites in Bradford and Devon.

We kick-started our celebrations with a display in the Main Library at the end of January. This included a great collection of recommended reading, fascinating 1950s photography and #YearOfTheNurseAndMidwife bookmarks free to all students!
