Sinead English, our Academic Liaison Librarian for the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, has recently been appointed Chair of CILIP North West!

CILIP: The library and information association, is a professional body for librarians, information specialists and knowledge managers in the United Kingdom.

Since becoming chair, Sinead has organised the first in-person event for the branch since 2019, held at UCLAN's Preston campus.

The Learning and Networking Day programme featured a range of talks on topics such as reflective practice, poetry and AI. UoB Library team members Bethany O'Donoghue, Annie Nye and Tim Leonard all spoke at the event.

The day was attended by librarians and information professionals from across the North West. CILIP has members from a diverse range of sectors including academic libraries, health knowledge services, schools and corporate information services.

Feedback on the event has been overwhelmingly positive!

  • “I really enjoyed today and each of the sessions. For my day-to-day job, I found the AI session the most useful. I also really enjoyed the three minutes of learning.”
  • “Fabulous event, very well run with some fabulous sessions on AI and poetry. Loved the many opportunities to network and learn from people and of course catch up with old friends.”
  • “Today has been brilliant. It's run really smoothly and there's been a great variety of interesting talks. Organisers and speakers have been great.”

You can read a recap of the event from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School librarian Kimberley Lawson here

Sinead has lots more planned for CILIP North West and further opportunities for the University of Bolton Library to both share examples of our best practice and learn from others. Well done Sinead!
