Academic Video Online is a multi-disciplinary resource that makes video material available with curricular relevance: documentaries, interviews, performances, news programs and newsreels, and more. Visit our Academic Video Online guide for more details.

This resource includes material produced by the Department of Education, such as demonstrations, lectures, documentaries, interviews, and primary-source footage of students and teachers in actual classrooms.

Freely available streaming video content

BFI Player: Free Content
Freely available content from the British Film Institute (BFI) including shorts, features and documentaries.
British Pathe Historical Collection
Historical films and archive footage which includes more than 136,000 items from 1910 to the end of 1984.
BUFVC Moving Image Gateway
Search gateway from the British Universities Film and Video Council (BUFVC) which indexes over 2000 websites relating to moving image and sound materials.
Feature Films at the Internet Archive
Feature films, shorts, silent movies and trailers. Works that were completed in 1923 or earlier are generally in the public domain. Many of the films are licensed with Creative Commons Licenses, but please check the metadata for the specific item.
