RefWorks is a reference management tool available to all students and staff at the University of Bolton.
Researchers in engineering, computing and psychology may choose to the use the LaTeX system for document preparation. References in RefWorks can be converted to text files for use in BibLaTex.
A wide range of reference management tools are available, and researchers may have their own preference for which tool to use. Popular tools include Mendeley, Zotero and Endnote.
Free versions of these tools are available but their features and storage may be limited compared to our institutional version of RefWorks.
Please note that RefWorks is the only reference management tool supported by the Library. We cannot provide help and support for other reference management tools.
No matter which reference management tool you choose to use, you can export bibliographic information from many library search tools.
Select the Cite This Item option next to a search result.
Then choose the reference management tool of your choice.
Many of our databases have features to export citations. Look for options labelled Export, Save Reference or Cite.
A wide range of export options are offered by many databases. The RIS file type is compatible with many reference management tools - if you do not see an option for the reference management tool of your choosing, try the RIS option.
See our Resource Guides for help with our key databases.
