Opening or changing a Bank Account

Students can apply for a Bank Introduction Letter if they need one to open a new bank account or Student bank account, or have an existing account that can be converted to a Student Account. International students usually need to open a Bank Account soon after their arrival in the UK and can request a letter once they have completed their enrolment. Most banks allow you to open an account online but you may be required to provide ID documents in person at the branch.

All of the major banks have branches in Bolton:

Once you know which bank you are opening an account with, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Student Record.
  2. Check your address details - both your home and term time address. These addresses will be included on your letter and must be correct so that there are no problems with the process of opening an account with your chosen bank.
  3. Submit a "Bank Introduction Letter" request - you will be asked to state the bank name and full branch address within the request so make sure you have this handy before you start.

Once submitted, the request is received by the Student Advisors. We will then aim to issue your letter within five working days and send it by post to your term time address. If we have any queries concerning your request we will contact you.

That's it! As long as you follow these steps, we do the rest and your letter then arrives with you by post.

Please note!

Because we ask for up to five working days to process all letter requests we would appreciate it if you request the letter as soon as you know that you need it, especially if you have made an appointment with the bank. If you arrive at the appointment without everything they have asked you to bring they may have to rearrange the appointment for a later date.
