Welcome to the Student Services resource page.

Student Services are here to help you at every step of your study - from the moment you accept your course offer to that magical moment when you step out onto the stage at the graduation ceremony. Together we deliver support, advice and guidance on all manner of things. We have a front facing service in the Main Reception and Student Advisors team. Other members of the team work hard behind the scenes. You will see us at Open Days and out and about answering questions during enrolment and induction, so you will often find our faces are familiar even before you start attending classes.   

We want this page to be a goldmine of resources for our students - available services, updates, events, useful forms, and so much more. We will keep developing and building the page and if you have any feedback or suggestions we'd love to hear from you!  

It's especially important for us to make sure that you know support from Student Services is still available, by chat or email, or Zoom (by prior arrangement). Get in touch!

PDF letters are back!

Following recent implementation of additional security measures to ensure secure remote access to our core systems, we have resumed sending official letters and Council Tax certificates to students via their University email as a PDF attachment. Feedback from our students indicates this method is preferred as the letter is received faster, and that on the whole there has been no difficulty in a PDF letter being accepted by a bank, GP etc. You can still have a hard copy posted to you but you will need to request this by replying to our email. We still aim to issue all letters within five working days of the request. Below is some further guidance to help you request a letter quickly and easily and help us deal with your request promptly.

Requesting letters – help us to help you

You have been keeping us very busy recently with requests for official letters! To get any letter you might need without complications we would like you to take a few minutes to read through the below to remind you of the best process.

Please do:

  • Use your Student Portal to make the request - https://evision.bolton.ac.uk/urd/sits.urd/run/SIW_LGN By logging into your Student Portal you can firstly ensure your address details are up to date, then go to the Student Services area and click on the relevant letter request link and follow the instructions to submit.
  • Clearly state within the request the purpose of the letter and what information you have been asked to obtain.
  • Allow us up to five working days to issue your letter. All letter requests are subject to some checks before being issued, and letters requested by Tier 4 students are normally subject to extra checks by the International Student Journey Officer and the five day processing time takes all of this into account. 

Please don’t:

  • Send the request using your personal email. We are not able to reply to a non-University email with personal information.
  • If possible, please don’t send a letter request from your University email. Although we can verify from the email address that you are a genuine student, some students who have asked for a letter by email have not checked their address details on the Student Portal first and only realised when they have received the letter that it has the wrong details on. Please make the request via the Student Portal and check your address details first.
  • Ask for a letter as proof of your address. We can’t provide a letter for this purpose.
  • Send multiple requests or come to the Student Centre to speed up the request – the process above allows you to submit a letter request online then just let us do the rest. All letter requests require some checks making before we can issue them and this is not always possible to do on the front desk. 

Virtual Student Advisor virtual drop ins – more appointments available!

You can book a Zoom appointment with a Student Advisor on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 May 2021. If you are unable to come to campus and would prefer to talk face to face rather than via email or phone, please use the Libcal booking service below to find out about availability and to make a booking.

Using your University email

Please remember to use your University email when corresponding with us! This is really important as it ensures that we can identify you as genuine student, that any information we share with you via email is through our secure network, and that you can identify the incoming email as being from a genuine member of staff. If you email us from a personal email it will take longer to deal with your enquiry as we will have to take extra steps to verify your identity.

Tap the App! MyBolton app - Welcome to MyBolton, the official app for the University of Bolton, providing useful information, tools, news, events and updates for enquirers, applicants, students, staff and alumni. For current students using the app will keep you up-to-date with all of the developments on campus and help you manage your day-to-day life on or off campus. You will be able to access your timetable, emails, Moodle, library account, calendar, PC availability, advice and support, campus maps, student hub and much more.

Online Drop-Ins

Student Advisors virtual drop in sessions are currently available and are a great opportunity to speak to us face to face, just like you would normally do in the Student Centre – sometimes its easier to talk than type out an email! We can answer a wide range of questions and provide guidance/signposting to other staff within the University or externally where appropriate.

Please note:

  • Sessions will be held via Zoom. Please ensure you have a working microphone on your device before you make a booking.
  • We may have to follow up an enquiry via email if we cannot provide an immediate answer, for example if we need to make enquiries with other members of staff.
