Guides to the following referencing styles are available:
Each guide provides examples for how to reference academic sources such as books, journal articles, reports and more. For longer assignments or a dissertation you may find it beneficial to use a reference management tool such as RefWorks.
RefWorks is a reference management tool available to all students and staff at the University of Bolton. RefWorks enables you to organise, store and share your references, as well as format them in a range of styles and export them as reference lists and bibliographies.
Our RefWorks guide has lots of information to help you register for an account and get started.
If you've already registered for a RefWorks account, you can login to your library via the RefWorks homepage.
The Library has a wide range of books to help you develop your academic skills. Visit our Study Skills guide for details of books on academic writing, referencing and more.
LEAP Online has two tutorials to help you develop your referencing skills and build your confidence.
LEAP Live offers a number of workshops which aim to support students to develop their referencing skills.
Turnitin is the plagiarism detection software you will most likely be required to use when submitting your assignments. Turnitin is accessed via Moodle. LEAP Online has a section on Turnitin featuring help guides and videos.
