Resource Lists Online

Resource Lists Online (RLO) links you to the key resources for your modules. You can access online library resources such as ebooks, journals, databases and websites direct from the list. For print books, follow the links to view real time availability of items in the Library.

Accessing Resource Lists Online

Look for the Resource Lists Online block in your Moodle sites. This is normally in the right hand column of Moodle.

Your tutor may also choose to embed links to RLO items in the main body of the Moodle page.

Don't see a RLO link in your Moodle site? Speak to your module tutor.

You can also search for module resource lists via the RLO Homepage. You can search by title, keyword or module code.

Accessing resources from the list

RLO Lists are sorted into sections. They may be structured by importance (such as Essential, Recommended and Further resources) or they may be sorted by format (such as Ebooks, Print books and Journals).

To access an online resource from an RLO list, just select the View Online button. You may be asked to log in again to access the resource.

You can also click the item title to see if the Library has print copies as well.

If there is no view online button, select the item title. The print holdings of the item in the Library will be displayed. This includes how many copies we have, and how many are available right now.

If all items are on loan, you can place a reservation request. Having trouble getting hold of an item that you need? Please contact us.

The Alternative Availability link enables you to buy your own copy of the title if you want. This links through to the John Smiths online store, where eligible UoB students can purchase books using their UniAsItShouldBe bursary credit

Useful tools to manage your reading

For each item, you can share, add a read status, a note or add the item to your own personal bookmarks. The options are on the right by each item. Hover over the circle for the read options and the three dots for the share, notes and bookmarks options.

Exporting references

To copy and paste a reference from RLO, select the Citation Style drop-down menu at the top of the list. A range of different citation styles will be shown. Select a style and the list will update. You can then copy and paste the bibliographic information into a document or reference list.

You can export bibliographic information from RLO to use in reference management software such as RefWorks

For a single item, select the three dots to the right hand side of an item and select Export RIS. Then import this file into your reference management tool.

To export the entire RLO list as a PDF, Excel or RIS file, select the View and Export button and select the option of your choice.
