Websites for Youth and Community Studies

Age UK The new force combining Age Concern and Help the Aged. Provides information about older people and the issues that concern them, their families and the community.
British Sociological Association (BSA) Includes news, information and a directory of sociology departments and other useful organisations. Guidelines such as the "BSA Statement Of Ethical Practice" are also available.
Department for Work and Pensions Government information on welfare, employment and areas such as social policy.
Government Information Service Provides links to all UK national and local Government Departments.
Joseph Rowntree Foundation Focuses on social change in the UK by researching the root causes of social problems and developing solutions, particularly in the area of housing in conjunction with the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust.
National Youth Agency
Office for National Statistics UK economic and social statistics , including the Retail Price Index, trade figures, unemployment figures etc.
PYMCA The PYMCA for Education library contains over 40,000 images related to youth culture and social history covering a period of 150 and supported by texts, essays, further documentation and links to other relevant websites.
UK Data Archive UK national resource containing a large collection of social sciences data.

Apps for Youth and Community Work

Not all apps may be available for all devices. To search for an app go to your device's app store e.g. iTunes Store for iPad or Google Play Store for Android devices. Some apps may require subscription or a payment.

NHS England Safeguarding app
NHS Choices Health Apps Library Useful for both health care professionals and students about to begin placements in the NHS. The easy to use app version explains over 700 commonly used acronyms used in the NHS. You can download the app (for iTunes or Android) via the link above.

Podcasts can be a great way to learn or keep up to date with current practice in your specialist area.
