Everyone knows that having fun isn't hard when you've got a library card... and here in Bolton we are lucky to have a terrific public library and museum on our doorstep!

Bolton Libraries and Museums operate the Central Library, Museum and Aquarium, as well as a range of site libraries across the borough. Membership of the Library is FREE! You can apply online or in person at a library

Once you've joined the Library, you can borrow books, use computers and access a range of online resources from home.

BorrowBox is a great ebook and audiobook loan service that enables you download eBooks onto your computer, eBook reader, tablet or smartphone. eBooks and eAudiobook titles are completely free to borrow and there are no overdues. Loans simply expire after three weeks. You can borrow up to six eBooks and six eAudiobooks at any one time.

BorrowBox has a great selection of novels and titles for leisure reading and magazines too! Your Bolton Library card even gives you a 10% discount in the Octagon Theatre cafe!*

Bolton Museum

Bolton's fantastic museum has collections that tell the fascinating story of Bolton, its places and people, alongside displays of Art, Egyptology, Archaeology, Botany and Zoology. If you've not been yet, it's well worth a visit!

The Museum also maintains two of Bolton's most beautiful attractions: Smithills Hall and Hall i' th' Wood Museum

Events

The Library and Museum run lots of great events, including Live Literature sessions from Bolton School of the Arts, film screenings, craft activities and family-friendly events, business and employability workshops and more. Follow Bolton Libraries and Museums on Twitter and Instagram for all their latest updates! And see our Using Other Libraries guide for details of more great libraries across the North West and beyond!
