The University of Bolton Library is proud to have supported Books for Abrehot, a project of the Ethopian Embassy in the UK.

Abrehot Library is a new state-of-the-art public library in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, and one of the largest libraries in Africa. Abrehot - meaning "Enlightenment" in the Amharic language - is a 19,000 square metre facility with room for more than a million books.

The Ethiopian government has launched an appeal for books for the Library, contacting governments, universities and members of the Ethiopian community around the world.

We are currently withdrawing unused bookstock to create additional study space for UoB students, so have been able to donate several hundred books to the Abrehot project. They are all high quality titles in good condition, though not the most recent editions or titles on University resource lists. The books were collected by a volunteer of the Ethiopian Embassy, Beleta Hilemariam Arefeayine, and will be sent to Addis Ababa to join the Abrehot collection.

The Library has received the following thanks for our support from Teferi Melesse Desta, the Ethiopian ambassador to the UK.

As well as supporting projects like this, the Library is committed to sustainability and works with Anybook to ensure that withdrawn books are recycled or reused. You can find out more on our newly launched Sustainability Guide
