Library improvements - driven by your feedback!

by Tim Leonard on 2021-02-24T10:42:00+00:00 in Feedback | 0 Comments

The National Student Survey is your chance to say what you think about your course and your experience at the University of Bolton. The Library is committed to continuous improvement - last year we were successful in gaining the Customer Service Excellence standard, which requires us to show how we monitor and respond to feedback.

We've introduced a whole range of improvements and new services over the last three years driven by your feedback - here are just a few examples!

Resources

In the last three years our ebook collection has expanded by over 20%! We now provide access to over 200,000 ebooks and over 60,000 journal titles. We've worked hard to develop and extend this during the pandemic, ensuring that you can study effectively from home.

We've responded to feedback and acquired new subject specialist databases and resources, including the leading market research platform IBISWorldBased on 2019 NSS feedback we have expanded our provision for Creative Technologies and acquired GDC Vault and the Stan Winston Online Library. Both resources contain thousands of hours of up-to-date video content on video games design and special and visual effects.

We were also the first academic library in the UK with our own dedicated Researcher Academy site. This provides a wide range of learning resources for postgraduate researchers, across all aspects of the research lifecycle.

We continue to make improvements to our main search platform Discover@Bolton, with more improvements in store for 2021!

Help and Support

Our Library Chat service was launched in March 2020 and was an immediate hit! We've now dealt with over 3200 chats - that's over 18 days of solid chatting time! We receive great feedback all the time - here's just a few recent examples:

  • amazing helpful service thank you
  • really helpful staff. Felt free to ask anything
  • Quick and efficient assistance!!
  • very patient and helped me resolve my problems

Other feedback helps us to understand where we need to improve things - we've implemented new processes and staff training as a result of chat feedback.

Over the last year we've also introduced bookable online appointments with Academic Librarians and run a series of online sessions of a range of Library resources. Both of those initiatives have also received great feedback, and have helped to shape the services and learning opportunities that we'll offer in the future.

Study Spaces

Pre-COVID we acted on student feedback and introduced new study space such as our Developers Room, and made selected group rooms accessible 24/7. We also increased the amount of individual study space for working with a laptop.

Since the start of the pandemic we've introduced a range of COVID-secure services, including Click and Collect and bookable individual study space throughout the library. Since launching the service we have responded to your feedback and increased the initial limits on booking times.

Your feedback

The Library reviews our NSS results on an annual basis, but you can also send us feedback at any time during your studies. Just let us know if you'd like someone to respond  and a member of library staff will be in touch.

If you are eligible student, you can complete the NSS via the banner below - it's open until 30 April 2021.
