What is Health Information Week and why do we get involved?

Every year here at University of Bolton Library we celebrate Health Information WeekIt’s a multi-sector, week-long, health information campaign: it’s about raising the profile of health literacy; offering a platform for collaborative working between different partners; and reminding us all what good, reliable, health information looks like.

What’s happening nationally for Health Information Week?

The best way to see what’s happening nationally is to follow @HealthInfoweek on twitter or use the #HIW2021.  Content and activities will based around the themes for week which you can find out more about on our LibGuide to Health Information Week 2021 as well as the official webpages here.

What’s happening in Bolton for Health Information Week?

Here are the University of Bolton Library we’ve put together a Libguide as mentioned above and a Reading list based around some of this years themes. We’ll also be tweeting using the hashtag from both the main @BoltonUniLib twitter account and @HHSUofBLib both raising awareness of our resources and highlighting other Libraries and Information services contributions.

University of Bolton is a member of Bolton Health Information Partnership and many other local colleagues will be contributing and sharing resources to celebrate Health Information Week. Here’s a short guide to some of the activities by local partners.

Bolton College LRC will be running with the various themes for the week and posting on their Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages along with their blog.

Bolton Foundation Trust Library Services have a themed digital campaign in line with the national Health Education England directive:

•             themed displays in the library promoted via social media

•             promotion of digital point of care tools to support evidence based practice for patient care

•             emphasis on digital patient information leaflets to support patient centred decision making and self-management for long term health and wellbeing.

Bolton Libraries and Museum Services are keeping it virtual this year too, plus having book displays in all the branches and promoting health eBooks and eMagazines on Borrowbox and Libby through their Facebook and Twitter pages. They’ll be one day in the week focussed on health information for children.

Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Service are planning to use the themes and post with cancer related support on their social media channels.

We hope you really enjoy some of the content and resources which we and other local and national library and information services are providing and promoting.
