Info & Available services

The University of Bolton recognises that students who are navigating and exploring factors around their gender, trans sexuality, non binary or other associated elements can have difficulties in accessing the right support from people who really understand.

There are services available that can offer support. Within the Life Lounge we can support you to access such services, alongside accessing our existing inhouse provisions, such as counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy.

From the beginning of 2021 a new NHS adult gender service has been established for Greater Manchester; Indigo Gender Service. The service is a partnership between gtd healthcare and LGBT foundation, it strives to deliver a service for trans communities designed by those who have real lived experience.

Trans and non-binary people's general health needs are the same as anyone else's. But trans people may have specific health needs in relation to gender dysphoria.

To access an NHS Gender Identity clinic you will first need to visit your GP. The GP, or another health professional can then make a referral to a clinic providing care for your geographical area.  Follow this link to find out more about NHS gender identity clinics.
