University of Bolton MHAW 2021 Events

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, the University of Bolton’s Life Lounge, along with the Sports and Wellness Team are holding numerous activities and competitions across campus that you can get involved with.

The email below outlines some of the events that will be taking place. To note some of these activities will also be available during the week commencing the 17th May, 2021.

Monday 10th May 2021
The Life Lounge has teamed up with our colleagues in the photography department to launch a photography competition.
So we want to see your best pics of some nature, along with a few words explaining your photo, perhaps you can share what nature means for your mental health / wellbeing.
Entries can be sent in to our social media channels: Twitter: @Wellbeing_UoB, Instagram: Wellbeinguniversitybolton. Not on social media? no problem, email your entry to lifelounge@bolton.ac.uk. Tutors in the photography department will decide the winners on Monday 17th, all entries to be in by midnight on the Sunday 16th, 1st prize is a photo shoot, under the guidance of professionals from the photography department including a printed photo, plus a £50 Amazon Gift Card. 2nd prize is a £50 Amazon gift card, and 3rd prize is £25 Amazon gift card.

The competition is free to enter and open to any University of Bolton student.
Our colleagues in sport and wellness have the following FREE activities running that any student can get involved in. Being active, getting outside in nature is good for your wellbeing, get involved.

  • Cricket 6pm-8m (with free transport too)
  • Active Life Toning
  • Netball

Tuesday 11th May 2021

We have a nature theme meditation session being delivered by our Coordinating Chaplain, Gill Smart in the Marquee on the Sward (weather permitting, this may be done outside on the Sward).  This follows on after the Yoga session, delivered by the Sports and Wellness Team, taking place in the Marquee on the Sward between 12:45 pm and 1:15 pm. But do not worry if you do not fancy yoga, you can just come along for the meditation.

Meditation is great way to relax, can be great tool in dealing with anxiety and much more. For more info and to book onto the meditation and / or the yoga using the booking system visit here.

Wednesday 12th and Wednesday 17th May 2021

Wednesday we’ve got lots of sporting activities you can get involved with; Hockey, Football, active toning class, and even a golf taster at a local course. For more info visit Sport & Wellness | University of Bolton.

Weather permitting on Wednesday you will also find staff from the Life Lounge on the Sward, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, if the weather is bad we will move this to the SLZ. Here you will be able to plant a seed and take this home to grow on your windowsill, free of charge. Staff will be on hand to give you tips on looking after the seeds you are growing. Life Lounge staff will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have on the support that we can offer to students in relation to Mental Health and Wellbeing. We will also have stall setup of useful self-help guides.

We will also be promoting a new project on campus, the creation of a herb garden. Candace Flatleyu who is behind the project wants student volunteers for the project, interested? Come long and find out more.

Thursday 13th May 2021

Yoga is available again on the Sward between 12:45 pm and 1:15 pm . For more info and to book onto the yoga using the booking system visit here.

Friday 14th May 2021

We have again teamed up with our colleagues in Sport and Wellness. Friday will see the second ‘Feel good Friday’ on the Sward, after its initial successful launch a couple of weeks ago. We will have various sports activities for you to engage in and an opportunity for you to win a mountain bike.

As well as Feel good Friday activities we also have an active Wellbeing Walk, It’s not far and it’s not fast, it’s just about getting some fresh air, stretching your legs and clearing your minds!
